A doctor on duty at the Hospital Emergency Department in Piotrków Trybunalski (Łódź Voivodeship) had more than one and a half per mille of alcohol in his body. The 56-year-old was detained by the police. – Under the supervision of the prosecutor's office, we are checking whether the doctor could have exposed the patients he treated to a direct threat of loss of life or health – informs the police spokesman. A hospital spokesman says the doctor was immediately removed from work.
The incident occurred on the night from Friday to Saturday. Concerned emergency department employees notified the police that one of the doctors may be drunk. The officers confirmed this information.
The doctor had over one and a half per mille of alcohol
– The police who arrived at the scene performed a breathalyzer test on a 56-year-old man, and the test showed over 1.5 per mille of alcohol in his body. He was arrested and the police, under the supervision of the prosecutor's office, are investigating the exact circumstances of the incident. We are checking whether the doctor could have exposed the patients he treated to a direct threat of loss of life or health – said Sergeant Edyta Daroch from the Municipal Police Headquarters in Piotrków Trybunalski in an interview with tvn24.pl.
Doctor dismissed from work
The spokesman for the Nicolaus Copernicus Provincial Hospital in Piotrków Trybunalski also commented on the matter. – I confirm that during the night duty in the emergency department of our hospital, there was a suspicion that one of the doctors on duty may have been under the influence of alcohol. The police were called to the scene and, after examination, confirmed these suspicions. The doctor was immediately removed from work and another doctor was appointed to replace him. The head of the department and the deputy director for treatment appeared on site during the incident. The hospital informs that such an event should not have happened at all. The management will take further action in this matter in the coming days. The hospital will probably end cooperation with this doctor, said Bartłomiej Kaźmierczak.
A 56-year-old doctor and surgeon was on duty at the Emergency Department in Piotrków under a contract. He had been working at the Piotrków hospital for a year.
