He left the baby in a locked car. The police intervened. The driver was a 27-year-old citizen of Tajikistan. As it turned out, he was wanted – at the request of Austria – on the European Arrest Warrant for participation in an organized criminal group smuggling people.

A few days ago, a witness informed the police about a small child left unattended in a closed car in the parking lot of one of the supermarkets in Piotrków.

“After a while, a police car appeared at the indicated place. In the parked Audi, the police saw a sleeping child. Out of concern for his safety, they quickly decided to call the owner of the vehicle through a message sent by the store staff. When the driver appeared in the parking lot, he was identified. It turned out then that he was wanted on a European Arrest Warrant. His two-year-old child was whole and healthy under the care of his mother, reported Dagmara Mościńska from the police station in Piotrków Trybunalski.

Citizen Tajikistan was wanted by the Austrian judiciary for participating in an organized criminal group involved in people smuggling. The 27-year-old was taken to a police cell. He was prosecuted by the Bureau of International Police Cooperation of the General Police Headquarters for extradition arrest. The court will decide on his extradition.

European arrest warrant is issued following a cross-border simplified judicial procedure involving the transfer of suspects or accused persons in connection with the prosecution of crimes or the execution of a custodial sentence or detention order. An EAW issued by the judicial authorities of one of the Member States is valid within the European Union.
