Wąsik and Kamiński are not victims, they are condemned. They are criminals, as stated by the court in two instances. They were imprisoned in accordance with Polish law – emphasized senator Gabriela Morawska-Stanecka (KO) in “Fakty po Faktach”. Senator Wojciech Konieczny (Left Wing) said that “Law and Justice treats people unequally, but this is nothing new.”

President Andrzej Duda initiated pardon proceedings against those legally convicted for exceeding their powers and illegal operational activities during the so-called land scandal Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik. He also requested the Prosecutor General to suspend the execution of the sentence and release the prisoners pending the proceedings.

Kamiński and Wąsik, as well as their political circles, do not recognize the final judgment and claim that the presidential pardon of politicians in 2015 is valid. They are of the opposite opinion experts, as we wrote about in more detail, among others: in Konkret24.

KONKRET24: The president “initiated pardon proceedings.” But he could have done it differently. We explain

PiS MPs spoke in the Sejm on Tuesday about the illegal imprisonment of politicians, and also stood and chanted slogans in defense of the convicts and sang the national anthem. Posters expressing solidarity were also placed in the seats of the detained politicians.

Morawska-Stanecka: I’m starting to wonder whether publicly praising the crime is an option

This situation was commented on in “Fakty po Faktach” on TVN24 by senators Gabriela Morawska-Stanecka (Civic Coalition) and Wojciech Konieczny (Left Wing).

– I’m starting to wonder whether Article 255, paragraph 3 of the Penal Code, i.e. public praise of a crime, does not come into play – said Gabriela Morawska-Stanecka.

§ 3. Whoever publicly praises the commission of an offense shall be subject to a fine of up to 180 daily rates, restriction of liberty or imprisonment for up to one year.

– Let us remember that Messrs. Wąsik and Kamiński are not victims, they are convicts. They are criminals, as stated by the court in two instances. They were detained in accordance with Polish law, she emphasized. – I cannot stand that these two men who have harmed many people are glorified – added the senator.

In her opinion, “making victims of these people, glorifying crime, it’s disgusting.” – The whole preventive function of punishment is to show society that a criminal, regardless of whether he is a politician or an eminent citizen, has been convicted before, and if he has committed a crime, he should atone for it – she emphasized.

Konieczny: Law and Justice treats people unequally

Konieczny said that “Law and Justice treats people unequally, but this is nothing new.” – I believe that this matter of pardon and acquittal of these two men is very important for Law and Justice. This is because the president will be president for another year and a half. Investigative committees are working and various irregularities are being revealed, he said.

According to him, “there will probably be some charges brought, the prosecutor’s office will work, verdicts will be passed or not, in the first instance during this year and a half.”

– Now Law and Justice needs a narrative that the president will pardon and acquit everyone next May (…). It doesn’t matter whether the prosecutor has just brought the charges or the first instance has already taken place. It has to be legal and it has to be as Law and Justice imagines it, he argued.

According to the senator, “these two criminals are supposed to protect future criminals.” – They have future criminals, i.e. people who are also named, they have to compare themselves to them, they have to refer to them – he added.
