As part of the tax settlement for 2022, we made refunds for over PLN 27 billion, said Deputy Minister of Finance and Head of the National Tax Administration, Bartosz Zbaraszczuk, at a press conference on Wednesday. In turn, the tax subsidies affected 1.8 million people who had to pay a total of PLN 11.2 billion to the accounts of tax offices. – It was an exceptional year – it brought major changes and a spectacular tax cut – said Deputy Minister of Finance and Head of the National Revenue Administration, Bartosz Zbaraszczuk, at a press conference on Wednesday.

How did the Poles settle accounts?

He added that the vast majority of taxpayers settled electronically. The data presented by the Ministry of Finance show that approx. 20 million electronic declarations were submitted as part of settlements, of which approx. 11.9 million in the Twoj e-PIT service and approx. PLN 8 million in the e-Declaration. About 1.3 million paper PITs were filed. The Ministry of Finance also reported that 15.9 million taxpayers filed their taxes individually, of which about 0.5 million as single parents, and 4.1 million people filed jointly with their spouses. – Out of 11.9 million declarations submitted in the Your e-PIT service, 7.3 million declarations were accepted by taxpayers and 4.6 million were automatically accepted in the service. Record tax returns

The data of the Ministry of Finance shows that in 15.7 million declarations, taxpayers reported an overpayment. – Tax cuts resulted in record returns. We made them for over PLN 27 billion – said the head of KAS.

Earlier, Małgorzata Samborska from Grant Thornton referred to this issue in an interview with TVN24 Biznes. As she explained, this “tax miracle” is “the effect of the changes that took place in the middle of the year, when the government, correcting the mistakes of the Polish Order, decided to reduce the tax rate from 17 percent to 12 percent.”

The Ministry of Finance calculated that the average return on declarations was PLN 1,715.45, and the average waiting time for a return was 19 days. The shortest turnaround lasted only a day. The resort also reported that 272,000 taxpayers obtained tax refund as part of the conversion of their liabilities using the so-called allowances for the middle class. This procedure was carried out by the ministry to ensure that no one would lose out on the tax changes introduced from July 1, 2022, when the relief for the middle class disappeared from the regulations. The value of these returns is PLN 136 million. In turn, the tax subsidies affected 1.8 million people who had to pay a total of PLN 11.2 billion to the accounts of tax offices. Ministry of Finance officials emphasized that the majority of tax payers are individuals conducting business activity and that the number of subsidies and the amount of subsidies is clearly lower than, for example, in 2021, when 4.9 million people had to pay extra and the amount was PLN 14.9 billion. – Due to the changes, we have increased the tax deduction for public benefit organizations from 1 to 1.5 percent. This resulted in a significant increase in the amounts obtained by these organizations, up to PLN 1.5 billion, said Deputy Minister of Finance and Deputy Head of KAS Anna Chałupa. She made a reservation that this is the declared amount. In order for these funds to be received by the organization, it must submit a current bank account to the competent tax office by June 30, and the taxpayer must pay the full amount of tax due under the PIT for 2022 At the same time, the Ministry of Finance reported that the average amount declared to OPP was PLN 242.84, and the highest amount declared in the declaration for OPP was PLN 750,000. zloty.
