“This is a consequence of the decision of the Company's Management Board, which on July 24, 2024, announced its intention to carry out group layoffs by the Plants and Headquarters of PKP Cargo SA in the restructuring process,” it was reported on PKP Cargo website“The group layoff process was preceded by an analysis of all positions, taking into account both economic criteria and, among others, work efficiency, importance for key operations and potential for adaptation in new organizational structures.”

According to the company's findings, up to 30 percent of PKP Cargo employees in restructuring will be covered by group layoffs – i.e. a maximum of 4,142 employees. It was also reported that “in connection with the termination of employment under group layoffs, a severance payment will be due depending on the period of employment”.
“The group layoffs that we are forced to carry out result from the situation that PKP Cargo has been brought to in recent years. Terrible management and bad business decisions have resulted in the loss of the market, contracts and competitiveness. Restructuring activities, including the restructuring proceedings, are to ensure financial stability for the Company and to heal it. The current management board is also focusing on regaining the market and increasing the volume of transported goods” – commented in a statement the acting President of PKP Cargo SA in the restructuring, Dr. Marcin Wojewódka.
Training and new jobs. Laid-off workers to receive support
“In this difficult situation for all of us, we are organizing real support for employees affected by redundancies. We are conducting training and helping them prepare for job searches, we are supporting them in expanding their skills and we are concluding further letters of intent with companies from the transport and rail industry, which will make it easier to find a new employer,” added Dr. Wojewódka.
The training mentioned will include assistance in writing a CV, preparation for job interviews and courses MS Office support. The company also signed letters of intent to employ former employees “(…) from Polregio SA to employ 300 people, from PKP Intercity SA to employ up to 400 people, with PKP Intercity Remtrak Sp. z o. o. to employ up to 300 people and with PKP Polish Linie Kolejowe SA to employ up to 250 people and Wars SA to employ up to 100 people”.
