PKP Cargo is launching a group layoff process that will cover 30 percent of its workforce, up to 4,142 employees in various professional groups, the company announced in a press release. The company is facing huge financial problems.

As reported, following consultations with the Company Trade Unions, which ended in the lack of an agreement, the Regulations on Group Layoffs at the Headquarters and in the Company's Plants were established, issued by the administrator on August 14, 2024.

In connection with the termination of employment under a group layoff, employees will be entitled to a severance payment depending on the period of employment.

“The group layoffs that we are forced to carry out result from the situation that PKP Cargo has been brought to in recent years. Terrible management and bad business decisions have resulted in the loss of the market, contracts and competitiveness. Restructuring activities, including the restructuring proceedings, are to ensure financial stability and heal the company. The current management is also focusing on regaining the market and increasing the volume of transported goods,” said acting president Marcin Wojewódka, quoted in a press release.

The Management Board also takes actions aimed at providing employment for the company's employees in other companies in the railway and transport sectors.

“We provide training and help prepare for job searches, support in expanding skills and conclude further letters of intent with companies from the transport and rail industry, which will make it easier to find a new employer. Currently, based on these letters, there are over 1,900 jobs available for our employees. We are taking further actions in this area,” added the Voivode.
