The Polish carrier PKP Intercity plans to buy trains that will run at a speed of 250 km/h – said Janusz Malinowski through the companies. A tender for the purchase of double-decker trains is also scheduled to be announced in the fall.

PKP Intercity plans to announce a tender in the fall for trains that will be able to transport passengers at a speed of 250 km/h – said Janusz Malinowski, president of the company's management board.

Currently, the only trains belonging to PKP Intercity that have been approved for a speed of 250 km/h are Pendolino trainsof which the carrier has 20 in its fleet.

PKP Intercity announced earlier that a tender for double-decker trains would be announced in the fall. The president of PKP Intercity explained that the first tender to be announced is for trains adapted to travel at a speed of 250 km/h. “We plan to announce this tender in the fall of this year,” said Janusz Malinowski, head of PKP Intercity.

He added that final analyzes are currently underway as to how many high-speed trains PKP Intercity will acquire under the tender.

PKP Intercity is the largest Polish railway operator, providing communication between large cities and popular tourist centers in the country, as well as enabling travel around Europe.

The new president of PKP Intercity

Since April 19, 2024, Janusz Malinowski has been the president of PKP Intercity SA. He has been associated with the railway for almost 40 years. In the years 2011-2014, he served as a member of the management board and president of the management board of PKP Intercity, where he was responsible for implementing the largest rolling stock investments, including: purchase of electric multiple units, including Pendolino trains.

PKP Intercity is the largest Polish railway operator, providing communication between large cities and popular tourist centers in the country, as well as enabling travel around Europe.

By 2030, PKP Intercity plans to run approximately twice as many trains and increase the number of passengers to almost 90 million annually. The company adopted the “PKP Intercity – Railway of Large Investments” strategy, which assumes an investment of PLN 27 billion in modern rolling stock and infrastructure.
