On Tuesday, the government adopted a draft law on cash benefits for performing the function of a village mayor. Later this year, we will introduce an allowance of PLN 300 for all village leaders who have reached retirement age, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced on Tuesday. The project will now go to the Sejm for work. The benefit is to be paid to persons who have held the position of village administrator for at least 10 years.

The bill on the cash benefit for performing the function of a village administrator was submitted by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Henryk Kowalczyk. The new solution provides that village leaders who have performed their function for at least 10 years will receive a benefit of PLN 300 per month. This amount will be indexed annually, reads the statement of the Government Information Centre.

Supplement for mayors

– This addition is a special form in which the state wants to repay, repay the long-term village leaders who worked and often engaged in many fields for the benefit of their small community – emphasized the Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki during Tuesday’s press conference after the meeting of the Council of Ministers.

– Still this year we will introduce a supplement of PLN 300 for all village heads and village heads who have reached the retirement age and who have performed their function for at least 10 years – added the head of the government. This means that the benefit will be granted after reaching the age of 60 in the case of women and 65 in the case of men.

Prime Minister Morawiecki pointed out that the function of a village administrator is one of the oldest and most common in Poland. – Every day, 40,000 village heads work and help their residents, whom they represent, in various circumstances – pointed out the head of the government.

As he emphasized, “the selfless dedication of time by village leaders is a model for all Polish residents and proof of a truly civic attitude.”

Mateusz Morawiecki, on behalf of the government, thanked “all the mayors in Poland, those who are mayors today, were in the past for their enormous effort and commitment to the common good.”

Benefit upon request

The new benefit for village leaders will be paid by KRUS at the request of the entitled person. As announced, the application template will be specified in the regulation of the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, in consultation with the Minister of the Interior and Administration.

“The application will have to be accompanied by a certificate issued by the mayor (mayor, president of the city) competent for the village in which the mayor performed his function” – we read in the CIR communiqué.

The new regulations are to enter into force on July 1, 2023.
