Nationwide Insurance coverage contributions will rise by 1.25% to pay for the social care system in England in a bid to finish the “unpredictable and catastrophic prices” confronted by many.

A social care package deal, which the prime minister has known as “the largest catch-up programme” within the NHS’s historical past, shall be funded by a brand new, UK-wide 1.25% ‘well being and social care levy’ from April 2022.

The plan was signed off by ministers at a Cupboard assembly earlier after days of fury from Tory backbenchers.

The levy is predicted to boost about £12bn which, within the early years, will primarily be used to fund coping with the NHS backlog.
