Friday brought heavy rainfall to the southern regions of Poland. In Podkarpacie there were over one hundred interventions, and in Małopolska over 40. The activities consisted mainly in pumping water out of flooded basements and properties.
On Friday, firefighters in Podkarpacie left over a hundred times to remove the effects of intense rainfall in the region – said Marcin Betleja, spokesman of the Podkarpacie fire brigade. As he noted, the activities consisted mainly in pumping out water from flooded basements and properties. – Firefighters also cleared road culverts. Using sandbags, they also secured the buildings against flooding – said Betleja.
The largest number of interventions was recorded in the following poviats: Jasielski, Jarosławski, Rzeszów and Dębicki. – Fortunately, nothing serious happened. Nobody was injured, the spokesman emphasized.
Interventions in Małopolska
Firemen from Nowy Sącz recorded over 40 interventions on Friday in connection with heavy rains. Roads and properties were flooded. Among other things, the warehouse of the hospital in Nowy Sącz was flooded, said Paweł Motyka, a spokesman for the fire brigade in Nowy Sącz.
The primary school grounds were flooded in the village of Królowa Polska. The students had to leave the facility because water had penetrated the building. The firefighters secured the building against further water inflow with sandbags.
The high mountain streams caused the greatest damage in Małopolska in the commune of Łącko, in the villages of Wola Kosnowa, Zagorzyn, Wola Piskulina and Kicznia. There, the commune and district roads no. 968 were washed out. The water brought rock rubble and branches to the road.
