Since joining Górnik Zabrze, Lukas Podolski has been more than just a player for the club. The former world champion is heavily involved in off-field matters, he contributed to several transfers and openly criticized what he didn't like. It was primarily about cooperation with the long-time mayor of the city, Małgorzata Mańka-Szulik, who resigned from her position in the spring. Now he honestly confessed what the situation at Górnik was like during her term.
Podolski criticizes the previous authorities in Zabrze. He says it straight. “She didn't feel the miner”
The footballer strongly criticized her in an interview for “Dziennik Zachodni”. – The old government only had a plan for its promotion and elections. In my opinion, she didn't feel the Górnik as she should. These people only took out loans. The club was more political than sporting and this needs to be cleaned up. Because of them, the club lost a few years and we have to try to catch up. If it fails, it will be difficult, he said.
However, Mańka-Szulik lost in the second round of the elections and her place was taken by Agnieszka Rupniewska, who immediately appointed Podolski as ambassador and social advisor to the management board. – Earlier, Mrs. Szulik wanted to decide about everything that happened with us. Now that has changed and cooperation with the city is great, he said at the end of July. Now Podolski is focusing on the next challenges. – The most important thing is the future. Will an investor come, what will happen. And don't listen to the comments of people who don't know what's going on in the club, but always give a **** about everything and it's always bad for them. Their expectations are different than reality. Nobody wants to hear that you have to build stability for years, pay off debts, finish the stand, build the entire system, and not just one season – he appealed.
Podolski's disturbing words. “Maybe I'll stop playing”
Podolski still has a grudge against Górnik for not being able to fully use the potential of his admission to the club. He is becoming more and more discouraged. – I think I improved Górnik a bit. I arranged and helped a lot, the club benefits from transfers. You have to wonder whether it's worth continuing to put so much energy into it, he confessed.
It is still unknown whether and what role Podolski will play in Górnik in the future. He had already announced that this season could be his last as a player. – For now I'm on the field, I don't know what to do next. When I look at my last two matches, I don't see any deterioration in my form. If it's like this in May, maybe I'll still play, and if not, maybe I'll stop playing, he concluded.
