MP Hanna Gill-Piątek announced at a press conference in the Sejm that she was leaving the Polska 2050 group. One of the reasons, she explained, was the resignation of Szymon Hołownia’s group from building a joint opposition list. – I am glad that Poland 2050 is entering this new path in politics, but this is no longer my path – said the MP, who was the first to join Poland 2050 more than two years ago. The party has already announced who will replace Gill-Piątek as head parliamentary groupings.

Hanna Gill-Piątek was the head of the Polish 2050 parliamentary group and the first member of parliament to join the group Szymon Hołowniain September 2020. Previously, she belonged to the club of the Left.

On Wednesday, at a press conference organized in the Sejm, Gill-Piątek announced that she was leaving Szymon Hołownia’s party. “This is a very difficult decision for me and I would like it to go very smoothly,” she said. As she explained, the reason for her decision is Poland 2050’s departure from the concept of building a single opposition list for the upcoming parliamentary elections.

– I am glad that Poland 2050 is entering this new path in politics, but this is no longer my path. When it comes to functions, sometimes there are more important matters – said the MP, explaining the reasons for leaving Szymon Hołownia.

Gill-Piatek: a strong opposition bloc is needed

She also announced her decision on Twitter by publishing a statement. “I am convinced, as I have emphasized many times, that in the upcoming elections on the side of the democratic opposition, what is needed above all is a strong opposition bloc, capable of finally defeating the party Jarosław Kaczyński“- she wrote.

Paulina Hennig-Kloska, vice-president of the group, became the new chairperson of the Polish 2050 parliamentary group.
