August 26 Central Statistical Office shared information that in July 2024, the unemployment rate in Poland was 5 percent. At the end of the month, 765.4 thousand unemployed people were registered in labor offices. Importantly, compared to the same period a year earlier, unemployment decreased by 2.2 percent.
How much does the state spend on the unemployed? The Central Statistical Office has provided details
“The amount of unemployment benefits paid (excluding social insurance contributions) in July this year amounted to PLN 167.4 million,” the Central Statistical Office reported. It was emphasized that the benefits paid in the past month were higher than in June by 7.5 percent and than a year ago by 11.9 percent.
In the first six months of 2024, a total of PLN 1,134.1 million has already been transferred to the unemployed. This is 14.8 percent more than in the first half of 2023. Let us recall that almost 85 percent of registered unemployed persons are not entitled to receive benefits.
The value of unemployment benefits increased in June
As we have already discussedfrom 1 June this year, payments for unemployed people were increased. The allowance, which is also subject to indexation, is to support citizens who have been left without means of subsistence while looking for work. Payments depend on two factors – the unemployed person's length of service and the length of the period of using support.
An important aspect is that in order to receive unemployment benefits, you must prove that you have worked for more than 365 days with at least the minimum wage, from which contributions to social insurance and the Labor Fund were paid. The year of work must fall within 18 months preceding registration at the labor office.
