On Monday, President Andrzej Duda signed a decision on the use of the Polish Military Contingent in the allied military support operation of the Republic of Lithuania, the National Security Bureau informed. The contingent is to include 75 soldiers and army employees, two S-70i Black Hawk helicopters, a Mi-17 helicopter and a system for combating unmanned aerial vehicles.

According to BBN, the quota will be used for Lithuania between July 4 and July 17 of this year. On July 11-12, the NATO summit will be held in Vilnius.

“The purpose of the Contingent’s operation will be to strengthen the security of the NATO Summit and strengthen Lithuania’s defense capabilities as part of the support operation conducted on the basis of Article 3 of the North Atlantic Treaty,” the Bureau said.

As we read in the communiqué, “the tasks of the Polish contingent will be related to maintaining airspace security, protecting the population and selected facilities, as well as manifesting the presence, unity and determination of NATO to ensure the security of member states.”

The BBN informed that the functioning of the contingent is “an element of the arrangements of the presidents of Poland and Lithuania regarding the strengthening of mutual military and training cooperation.” It also announced other similar ventures this year.

About the fact that Poland will send a contingent to Lithuania in connection with the NATO summit Jacek Siewiera, head of the BBN, informed on Thursday in “Fakty po Faktach”.

– Today, the president received a request from the prime minister to send a contingent of special forces to secure operations during the NATO summit in Vilnius. Poland will direct such a contingent, he announced.

As he continued, this week the said contingent is to carry out a series of exercises “both in the Suwałki Przesmyk and in the area of ​​critical infrastructure”, while in the following week “it will move smoothly to the implementation of tasks with the use of air transport means”.
