Axiom Space informed on Wednesday about the new date of starting the AX-4 mission with the Pole Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski to the International Space Station (ISS). The planned flight is to take place on June 8.
The start of the Axiom-4 (AX-4) mission with the Pole Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski on ISS is scheduled for Sunday, June 8, when in Poland it will be 15.11 (9.11 in Florida)-Axiom Space said on Wednesday.
Earlier, the flight was to take place on May 29.
The mission includes: Peggy Whitson (USA) – commandant; Sławosz Uznański -Wiśniewski (Poland/ESA) – specialist; Shubhanshu Shukla (India) – pilot and tibor kapuu (Hungary) – specialist. Astronauts are to spend 14 days at the station. They will conduct research related to, among others with the influence of microgravity on the human body, land observation and fuels of the future.
Polish mission in space
As part of the Polish Ignis mission in orbit, 13 experiments will be carried out, which relate to, among others medicine, biology, biotechnology and engineering sciences. Several periods have also been planned, during which the Polish astronaut will make connections with native amateur radio.
Uznański-Wiśniewski will also conduct shows in space that will be recorded and then used as part of the educational program. Classes will apply to, among others Newton's cradle in weightlessness (government of several contacting equal steel balls that can only fluctuations in one plane; the device illustrates the principle of momentum and energy) and the action of simple electrical systems (e.g. a telegraph key).

What will fly to the ISS
The astronaut will take with him to ISS, among others Polish flags, including a patch from the suit of Mirosław Hermaszewski, souvenirs of Maria Skłodowska-Curie, a map from the work of Nicolaus Copernicus “de Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium” (“On the rotation of heavenly spheres”), a brush of salt from Wieliczka and a piece of Polish amber. The manuscript of Mazurka Fryderyk Chopin, three poems by Wisława Szymborska, a country from the regional costume of the Lodz Land from the Ethnographic Museum in the Ethnographic Museum in the Mazurek of Wisława Szymborska, will also fly to the orbit WarsawPolish letters (ą, ć, ę, ł, etc.) printed in 3D as well as emblems and mission poster.
The AX-4 mission will be another commercial manned expedition carried out by Axiom Space. The participation of a Pole in it is the result of a contract signed between the Ministry of Development and Technology and ESA for the preparation and conduct of the Polish Scientific and Technology Mission Ignis on the ISS. The Polish Space Agency (Polsa) as an executive agency of MRIT also takes part in the preparations.
Dr. Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski will be the second Pole in space. The first was Mirosław Hermaszewski (1941-2022), who from June 27-July 5, 1978, together with Piotr Klimuk (Soviet cosmonaut of Belarusian nationality), held a flight on a space ship Sojuz 30. During the 8-day mission 126 laps were made.
