It cannot be that parliamentary immunity is violated in such a radical way – this is what candidate for senator, former Ombudsman Adam Bodnar, said about the police intervention against MP Kinga Gajewska. – Sanctity has been breached, because for me the arrest of a parliamentarian is sacred – he added.
MP of the Civic Coalition Kinga Gajewska was forcibly taken to the police car by the police and dragged into it. The incident occurred on Tuesday in Otwock, where the Prime Minister’s meeting was taking place Mateusz Morawiecki. The event was recorded by the TVN24 camera.
Witnesses to the event told the officers that she was a member of parliament and that she herself was she later said in “Kropka nad i” – she wanted to identify herself, but they held her hands. The police, however, made statements issued later she wrote, among other things, that “police officers do not know all people with immunity” and “they obtain the necessary knowledge only after presenting their ID cards.” Also published recordings from the camera on the uniform of one of the policemen.
Bodnar: sanctity has been transgressed
The former Ombudsman and current candidate of the Civic Coalition for senator spoke about the intervention against Gajewska on Thursday in “Rozmowa Piaseckiego” Adam Bodnar.
– It can’t be that parliamentary immunity is violated in such a radical way. The police had absolutely no right to detain the MP without the opportunity, without giving her a chance to identify herself, he emphasized.
He added that “we have an absolutely constitutional right to spontaneous demonstrations”, but “it has already happened in Polish reality that the police behaved in an unworthy manner and usually detained people who were associated with either the opposition or democratic circles.”
– What is special about this case is that the sanctity was exceeded, because for me the detention of a parliamentarian is sacred. This is the first case in history after 2015, or perhaps even after 1989, that parliamentarians were detained in this way – said Bodnar.
