The police released a statement on Wednesday in the case described by “Fakty” TVN. The announcement was also issued by the Ministry of Health.
Supreme Medical Chamber: we are conducting an investigation
On Wednesday, the Supreme Medical Chamber announced in a message on Twitter that “in view of the situation revealed yesterday, which happened to Mrs. Joanna, the Self-Government is conducting an investigation”.
“According to the information we have obtained, the services have been notified of a suspected suicide attempt. A doctor who suspects such an attempt is obliged to notify the relevant services to save endangered lives” – it was reported.
As it was added, “conversations with dispatcher 112 are recorded, hence it is to be verified (content of the notification)”. “In the event of a breach of medical confidentiality, the relevant Ombudsman for Professional Responsibility will initiate proceedings in the case” – we read.
“At the same time, we would like to emphasize that what happened to the patient constitutes a violation of the patient’s rights and we hope that the case will be taken up ex officio by the Patient’s Rights Ombudsman” – informed the Supreme Medical Chamber. “We have no consent to violate the patient’s right to intimacy, medical confidentiality and to hinder the provision of assistance to the patient. Patient Rights Ombudsman: the patient has the right to respect for intimacy and dignity
A statement in the case of Mrs. Joanna was also issued by the Ombudsman for Patients’ Rights. He said that he learned about the case from the material of “Fakty” TVN. We immediately took steps to clarify the situation and verify all circumstances of the event.
In order to clarify the situation, to hospitals in Krakow (the 5th Military Clinical Hospital and the Gabriel Narutowicz Municipal Specialist Hospital), the Krakow Rescue Service, the Provincial Police Commander in Krakow and the relevant prosecutor’s office. Contact was also made with the patient’s representative.
“According to the initial reports, the patient’s life and health could be at risk. Detailed explanations are needed, including an analysis of documentation and monitoring records” – the release reads.
“Article 20 of the Act on Patient Rights and the Ombudsman for Patients’ Rights stipulates that the patient has the right to respect for intimacy and dignity during the provision of health services” – he stressed.
“We want the case and all the accompanying circumstances to be clarified as soon as possible. In this situation, in addition to full information for the public, the most important thing is the good of the patient. We will inform you about our findings in the case after establishing the above facts and verifying all the necessary information” – we read .
