On Thursday, Border Guard officers recorded 130 attempts to illegally cross the Polish-Belarusian border. 110 attempts were thwarted, 20 migrants were detained.
Statistics on attempts to illegally cross the border were provided by the spokeswoman for the Border Guard, Second Lieutenant Anna Michalska.
On the last day, border guards on the Polish-Belarusian border recorded a total of 130 attempts to cross illegally. – We detained 20 illegal immigrants: 15 citizens of Iraq and five citizens of Syria – said 2nd Lt. Anna Michalska. She also informed that in the last 24 hours, border guards prevented 110 attempts to cross the border.
The day before, border guards detained 17 illegal immigrants: 15 Iraqi nationals, a Nigerian and a Cameroonian. Then the border guards thwarted 93 attempts to illegally cross the border from Belarus to Poland.
Throughout August, the Border Guard recorded 3,500 attempts to illegally cross the border from Belarus to Poland, of which more than 2,500 attempts were thwarted. Almost a thousand foreigners have been detained.
Migrants in Usnarz Górny “regularly get meals”
A spokeswoman for the Border Guard also informed that a group of foreigners was still wandering near Usnarz Górny, on the Belarusian side of the border with Poland. “These people get meals and cigarettes on a regular basis,” she said.
– Apart from the fact that we focus on the protection of the state border, all our patrols are responsible for verifying whether people who are in the state of emergency are allowed to stay there – she said.
State of emergency in the border areas
President Andrzej Duda acceded to the request of the Council of Ministers on Thursday and issued an implementation ordinance state of emergency in part of the Podlaskie and Lubelskie voivodships. It is related to the situation on the border with Belarus. On the same day, the regulation was published in the Journal of Laws.
The state of emergency is to apply for 30 days and cover 183 towns: 115 in Podlasie and 68 in the Lublin region.
A group of immigrants who want to get to Poland has been living in Usnarz Górny for three weeks. According to the government, these and other people are brought to the border by the services of the Belarusian regime, and the action is a “hybrid war”.
