Former head of Polish diplomacy, currently PiS MEP Witold Waszczykowski, when asked in “One for One” on TVN24 whether he wondered what happened to the migrant children who previously stayed in Michałów, replied in the negative. “Because I don’t know any details of the case,” he added. – Poland should not be blamed for what is happening there, we are the target of a great hybrid action not only by Lukashenka, but it is known today that it is with the consent of Russia – he said.
Over 20 migrants – including women and eight children – found on Monday morning in Szymki were later that day in front of the Border Guard post in Michałów, Podlasie. On Wednesday, the spokeswoman for the Podlasie Branch of the Border Guard Katarzyna Zdanowicz said in an interview with a TVN24 reporter that “the procedure was applied to migrants in accordance with the regulation”. She confirmed that there were women and children among them. She also reported that the migrants “have been led to the border line and are now in Belarus”.
Waszczykowski: I don’t wonder what happened to the children from Michałów, I don’t know the details
On Saturday, the guest of “One for One” on TVN24 was the former head of Polish diplomacy, currently a PiS MEP, Witold Waszczykowski. When asked if he wondered about the fate of the children from Michałów, he replied: – I do not think about it, because I do not know any details of this case. These are the issues covered by the internal procedures of the Polish state.
– I will not judge this matter, because I do not know the details. (…) I do not know what the circumstances of this case were, whether they are children without parents or guardians, maybe the guardians stayed on the other side – he continued.
– Poland should not be blamed for what is happening there, we are the target of a great hybrid action not only by Lukashenka, but it is known today that it is with Russia’s consent – he continued.
Waszczykowski: from the point of view of Afghans and Iraqis, Belarus is a safe country
Asked whether the return of migrants at the border, the use of pushbacks is consistent with the provisions of international law, he replied: – I do not know anything about turning back, (using – ed.) Pushbacks.
– The provisions of international law say that if anyone arrives in Poland from conflict-prone areas, he has the right to apply for political asylum, Poland is obliged to consider such a request, but is not obliged to grant it – said Waszczykowski.
He added that “Belarus is not included in the assessment of a country that may be subject to torture, persecution, if they are Afghans, Iraqis.” – Because from the point of view of those people who, for example, left Afghanistan, Belarus is a country assessed by international law as a safe state. Although it sounds idiotic, because we know how the Belarusian opposition is treated, no harm is done to the people of Iraq and Afghanistan, they are supplied by Belarusians – said the MEP.
