President Andrzej Duda has agreed to Piotr Serafin being the Polish candidate for European Union Commissioner, the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland announced on Friday afternoon.

The Prime Minister on Tuesday Donald Tusk announced that Piotr Serafin is the Polish candidate for the position of EU Commissioner for Budget. He noted that the decision on which portfolio will be given to the Polish Commissioner depends on the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

– I have already talked to the president, we had such a discreet meeting a few days ago – Tusk informed on Friday, when asked whether the prime minister's office would send a formal letter to the president regarding Serafin's candidacy and whether he had talked or would talk about it with the president. The prime minister added that the meeting took place in the Tri-City on board a ship. – Thanks to that, it was very discreet – he noted.

On Friday afternoon Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland published a letter that he addressed to Andrzej Duda Prime Minister Donald Tusk. The President agreed to the candidacy of Piotr Serafin.

Currently, Serafin serves as head of the Permanent Representation of Poland to the EU, and in 2014-2019 he was head of Tusk's cabinet when he was President of the European Council.
