Polish multi-role F-16 fighters once again escorted American B-1B bombers. The Ministry of National Defense explained that it was done as part of NATO’s allied cooperation in the Polish airspace
“Today, the F-16 escort supported the American B-1B strategic bombers as part of NATO’s allied cooperation in Polish airspace. This is another joint mission of Polish and American airmen,” the Ministry of National Defense informed on Saturday on Twitter.
For two years, Polish airmen have been escorting American strategic bombers that fly in Europe as part of allied missions. Similar flights are carried out by pilots of other NATO countries.
In May, the Ministry of Defense informed on escorting US B-52 strategic bombers as part of the US Air Force Bomber Task Force mission. From 2019, Polish F-16 and MiG-29 fighters also escorted B-2 and B-52 bombers.
The B-1B is a long-range bomber with variable wing geometry, carrying the largest payload of conventional weapons of any US Air Force aircraft. The Ministry of National Defense also informed about the flight of these machines in the escort of Polish fighters last Tuesday.
