A moment before the second round of presidential elections, the message returned to the network that Donald Tusk said that Polish gold reserves also belong to the European Union. Such words have never been said. We are reminding.

The narrative about Tusk's alleged words about gold reserves appeared on the occasion of the second round of presidential elections. “This German Szrot said that Polish gold also belongs to the European Union,” he says entrywhich was published on X on June 1, on the day of re -voting in the election (original spelling). He was depicted with a black and white photo of Donald Tusk. The post quickly generated over 100,000 views.

False post about the prime minister's statements about Polish gold reservesx.com

Posts with the same content were also published on June 1 and 2 on Facebook.

Internet users on Facebook reported that Tusk was to talk about EU rights to Polish goldFacebook

May 29 similar entry He appeared on X. “That's why we don't vote for a junkie” – wrote its author (original spelling) and attached graphics to it. It shows a photo of Tusk, and above it an inscription, which is a supposed quote from a politician. “Polish gold reserves do not belong only to Poland. Poland is in the EU so they belong to the whole EU” – the prime minister was to say.

Another entry about Tusk's alleged words appeared on the web three days before the electionx.com

The post was displayed over 76 thousand. times, and in the comments we read voices of indignation. “This is what this game goes for, they want to rob Poland from reserves and savings”; “You will go off your hands sooner than you will move them”; “This traitor will destroy everything, waste all the effort of all those who care about the good of Poland”; “Tusek you traverse and thief get out of Poland,” wrote Internet users.

However, some of them did not believe that the prime minister said such words about Polish gold reserves. “What nonsense”; “Attention manipulation and trolling !!!”; “Any source of this quote? Context?”; “But nonsense …” – commented on popular entries from X.

And the latter was right. Tusk did not say such words, and this message is not new. We are reminding.

Fake News returns at the election

Tusk's false quote that the European Union is a co -owner of Polish gold reserves has been circulating on the web for several years. He was verified by Fact-Checking Editorial Office, also by Concrete24. We described this matter in February 2025. We did not find any reliable reports in the media and press agencies that would confirm that Prime Minister Donald Tusk ever said such or similar words in public. The quote as a false was also rated by the portal Fakenews.pl. “Apart from the parties for supporters of Law and Justice, we have not found a single reliable source that would confirm that Donald Tusk actually said these words,” the editors informed.

Similarly, now, as in February, the posts that reported the alleged words of the prime minister did not provide any source of quote or information where he was to fall.

At that time, we explained that EU member states were not obliged to transfer their reserves anywhere. Many Internet users, in the context of the discussion about gold, claimed that after entering the Euro zone, Poland would be obliged to transfer gold reserves to Frankfurt am Main (Germany). This is where the European Central Bank is based, which manages the euro currency. However, this is not true, because the euro area countries do not have to transfer its gold reserves to the ECB. They are only obliged to pay certain amounts to capital and reserves to the ECB.

And in addition, Poland is not even a chance or plans to go to the euro in the near future, which has also many times We explained In Concrete24.

How much gold we have and where is it

At the beginning of May, the National Bank of Poland informed that Poland already has over 500 tons of gold.

And where is it detained? The NBP asked such a question in January 2024 by the economist RafaÅ‚ Mundra replied that at the end of 2023 we had nearly 360 tons of gold, which were stored in three places: at the NBP treasury in Warsaw, the Bank of England in London and from 2023 at the Federal Reserve Bank in New York. “The process of diversifying storage places results from the strategic nature of gold reserves and is in line with the tendency in other European countries, which store about 50% of their gold resources in their own treasures” – he explained the issue of several locations of reserves in document from September 2024, NBP President Adam GlapiÅ„ski. Still, gold belongs to Poland, and GlapiÅ„ski himself speaks of gold as “the property of all Poles”.
