There were too many mistakes in the Polish Lada. I would not have made a decision to award prizes to the ministry officials, Deputy Finance Minister Artur Soboń said in “Rozmowa Piaseckiego” on TVN24. He noted that numerous errors in the Polish Lada “do not make it impossible to exclude that these people were working on this project” which “is maintained in terms of directions”.

As “Gazeta Wyborcza” informed at the end of May, officials from the Ministry of Finance granted awards for the preparation of the Polish Deal – on average, about PLN 11.7 thousand. The total amount of bonuses exceeded PLN 1.43 million. The awards were paid out in 2021, before the flagship project of Law and Justice came into force.

Soboń: If it were up to me, these awards would probably not exist

The guest of “Rozmowy Piasecki” on Tuesday was Artur Soboń, deputy finance minister who joined the ministry at the end of January to deal with the repair of the Polish Order. – There have been awards and prizes awarded in ministries for various activities. From what I heard, yes (awards were given – ed.) – he replied when asked about bonuses for officials.

He said that the numerous mistakes in the Polish Lada “do not make it impossible that these people were working on this project”. – To a large extent, this project – even after my corrections – is maintained in terms of direction, argued Soboń.

– There were too many mistakes, if it was up to me, these awards would probably not exist. I was not at the Ministry of Finance at that time. (…) I would not have made such a decision – said the deputy minister.

He noted that “if employees are additionally overloaded with work, they have some bonuses”. – I have no problem with motivating employees with additional funds. It is a natural role of a manager, team leader – he said.

Soboń: “short and understandable” in the case of taxes is a promise that is hard to keep

The moderator cited an excerpt from the 2019 election program of the Law and Justice party, in which the party seeking re-election promised to create a “short and understandable tax law”. – “Short and understandable” in the case of taxes is a promise difficult to keep – admitted Soboń.

He argued that “the system in 2021 in Poland was no less complicated than today”. – We had a complicated system, not particularly fair. The Polish Order with its advantages and disadvantages overlapped with this – he said.

– But saying that after July 1 there will be some dualism, there will be different tax systems, is only a journalistic thesis. It is easy to say that, because the confusion is considerable. After July 1, the advance dualism that is present will be eliminated, and the tax system will be uniform throughout the year, emphasized Soboń.
