Polish Smog Alert, a movement associating 50 local anti-smog initiatives, was nominated for clean air activities carried out in Poland, which were considered one of the most effective campaigns in the world in the field of environmental protection. The reforms sought by PAS include: anti-smog resolutions, coal quality standards, ban on the sale of the most polluting heating devices, financial support programs for the modernization of heat sources and thermal modernization of houses. These changes contributed to a significant improvement in air quality in Poland.
– This nomination is an appreciation of the commitment of many local activists of the Polish Smog Alert who have been working for clean air for the last decade. Thanks to their determination, air quality in Poland has significantly improved, although much remains to be done. Our goal is a smog-free Poland. Air pollution still causes 40,000 premature deaths every year. We have to change this, said PAS leader Andrzej Guła.
The Earthshot Awards Ceremony will be held in Singapore on November 7. Five of the 15 finalists will receive £1 million to continue their work.
