Police officers from Polkowice (Lower Silesia) detained two drivers who, under the influence of alcohol, caused a collision. The third man who appeared at the scene tried to defend them. The man was a colleague of one of the detainees and as it turned out he was also drunk. But his line of defense was of no avail.
The collision took place last Monday on the road near Trzebnice. The policemen who arrived at the scene were concerned about the condition of the drivers who took part in the incident.
– The inhabitants of Żabice were under the influence of alcohol. The 63-year-old driver of the Audi had nearly 2.8 per mille of alcohol in his body, and the 30-year-old from the Volkswagen blew 0.4 per mille of alcohol. The Audi driver did not adjust the speed during the right-turn maneuver and drove into the opposite lane, where he encountered a Volkswagen – said junior aspirant Przemysław Rybikowski, press officer of the Poviat Police Headquarters in Polkowice.
He took his friend’s defense, but he was also drunk himself
The policemen’s faces were even more surprised when a 56-year-old from nearby Trzebnice arrived at the scene. The man is a friend of the Audi driver and decided to defend his friend.
– The policemen spent the next minutes listening to the version according to which a resident of Trzebnica was driving an Audi, not his 63-year-old colleague. Of course, the 56-year-old did not believe the uniform, who a moment later was also tested with a breathalyser, and the device showed a value of three per mille, the press officer of the KPP in Polkowice said.
Both drivers lost their driving licenses. The younger man will be held responsible for the offense of driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, for which he may be fined up to PLN 30,000 or imprisoned for up to 30 days and a three-year driving ban.
– The older driver may suffer worse consequences. The 63-year-old was charged with drunk driving, having previously been convicted of such an offense. In his case, the stay in a penitentiary facility may be up to five years, plus even a 15-year driving ban and a fine of up to PLN 60,000 – added Rybikowski.
