Due to the strong winds of the last day, the fire brigade intervened most often in Pomerania, where about 350 departures were made. In the town of Murowaniec in Słupsk poviat, one person died and one was injured after a tree fell on a car with which they were traveling. In the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, the wind damaged metal sheets on the roofs of three buildings. Fallen trees blocked the roads.
The strongest winds were blowing in Pomerania on Friday and at night from Friday to Saturday, and therefore firefighters intervened about 350 times until 10.00 – said the press spokesman of the Provincial Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Gdańsk, Brigadier Łukasz Płusa.
The greatest number of interventions was in the Wejherowo poviat, in Gdańsk, in the Kartuzy and Puck poviats. The interventions were mainly related to the removal of broken boughs, branches as well as fallen trees.
The tree toppled over a moving car
– A tree fell while driving on a passenger car. One person is killed and one is injured – said Płusa. A 35-year-old man was killed on the spot, and a 24-year-old passenger of the car was hospitalized.
In the town of Warcino, also in the poviat Słupsk, firefighters were securing a 20-meter metal chimney, which was tilted by strong winds, which was reported on Twitter by the State Police Headquarters in Gdańsk. 10 people were evacuated from one building.
As reported by TVN24 reporter Anna Maria Kowalewska, there were problems with the landing of planes at the Gdańsk airport, while in the port of Gdańsk there were problems with transshipment.
Blocked roads and damaged roofs in Warmia and Mazury
On the last day in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, the fire brigade carried out about 45 interventions related to weather conditions, mainly to remove trees and branches broken by the wind blocking the roads. The element also damaged the metal sheets on the roofs of three buildings. – Most of the events related to strong winds were recorded in the poviats of Bartoszyce, Olsztyn, Gołdap and Braniewo – said Captain Marcin Rezmer from the Warmian-Masurian fire brigade. He added that no one was hurt in any of these events. On Saturday morning, 49 transformer stations are shut down due to accidents caused by the wind, informed the person on duty from the crisis management department of the voivodeship office. 750 consumers were left without electricity, mainly in the vicinity of Ełk, as well as Olsztyn, Elbląg and Braniewo.
By Friday evening, nearly 500 interventions across the country
As the State Fire Service informed on Friday evening, by 11 p.m. throughout Poland, firefighters received 479 reports related to strong winds.
On Friday, apart from Śnieżka, where gusts were blowing at a speed of 130 kilometers per hour, the strongest gusts were recorded in Łeba. There, the gusts of wind reached 94 km / h. On Saturday, the wind calmed down, on the coast – as the IMWM threat forecast shows – it can still blow strongly.
