After heavy rainfall, dozens of roads in Lisbon and its suburbs were under water. Water appeared in some buildings. A woman’s body was found in one of the flooded cellars.
Heavy rain hit the Portuguese capital on Wednesday. The Portuguese Civil Defense reported that the main arteries of the center of Lisbon, as well as towns in the western part of the capital agglomeration, including Alges, Queluz, Barcarena and Tercena, were completely flooded.
On the night of Wednesday to Thursday, the services found the body of a 55-year-old woman in one of the flooded cellars in the town of Alges, on the western outskirts of the capital.
Trapped cars, water rushed into the hospital
The element led to the imprisonment of hundreds of vehicles on the streets of Lisbon. The water penetrated into to the airport in Lisbon, as well as to the capital’s hospital building. Francis Xavier.
The civil defense of Portugal appealed to the inhabitants of the Lisbon agglomeration not to leave their homes due to heavy rainfall.
Numerous floods on Wednesday also occurred in Faro, located in the south of Portugal, the main city of the Algarve region, a popular tourist destination in Europe.
