Solidarity of the Polish Post is protesting against the termination of the Collective Labour Agreement (ZUZP). “We do not agree to the liquidation of the wage and social achievements of previous generations of postmen,” the unionists declared on Wednesday and announced protest actions. In September, Solidarity of the Polish Post is planning to hold a strike referendum.
On Wednesday, the president of Poczta Polska, Sebastian Mikosz, during a press conference devoted to the company's transformation plan, announced the introduction of a voluntary redundancy program that will cover over 9,000 people, or 15 percent of the staff, and the termination of the Company's Collective Labor Agreement, as “completely unsuited to today's realities” or to the “need for flexibility and modernity in the way of managing personnel.”
The termination of the agreement will become effective from 28 February 2025.
“The termination of the Collective Labour Agreement may worsen the situation of many employees”
In a statement addressed to employees, trade unionists warn that after that date, employment and pay conditions will be determined on the basis of individual contracts and the Labour Code, “which may mean a deterioration in the situation of many employees”.
“The termination of the Collective Labour Agreement may worsen the situation of many employees, especially those who benefited from special allowances, bonuses, holidays or employment guarantees,” the statement reads.
The Solidarity trade union expressed its opposition to the employer's decision. “We do not agree to the liquidation of the wage and social achievements of previous generations of postmen. We will not allow the lowering of the working and living standards of our colleagues,” it emphasized.
In an appeal to employees, the union encouraged solidarity and support for protest actions that will be organized “in the near future.” “Only together can we defend our rights,” the union emphasized, calling on postmen to join the workers' organization.
“Let us not be intimidated! Let us not be deceived! Let us not be destroyed!” declared Solidarity of the Polish Post.
As announced by Marcin Gallo, deputy chairman of the postal Solidarity, in September Solidarity of the Polish Post plans to hold a strike referendum. According to him, the voluntary redundancy program presented on Wednesday may lead to a deterioration in the quality of services.
Polish Post's transformation plan
According to Mikosz, the transformation plan prepared by the management board and approved by the supervisory board assumes that the company will be gradually transformed into a modern courier-retail-financial-digital company, and the changes will cover key areas of activity, such as courier and financial services. The plan also assumes modernization of IT systems, logistics processes and the sales network.
Poczta Polska is a State Treasury company and the largest postal operator in the country. It employs around 62,000 people and its network includes 7,600 branches, subsidiaries and postal agencies throughout the country.
