POW tunnel near Ursynów. The ventilation has not worked. The firefighters refused to accept the investment

In the tunnel of the South Ring Road of Warsaw near Ursynów, ventilation will not work properly during the smoke test. The firefighters have not picked up the investment and will carry out further tests – informs “Gazeta Stołeczna”.

The section from the Puławska junction to the Wilanów junction, along with the tunnel, was to be completed in August last year. The General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways stated that – if the tests with firefighters end in September – the investment will be reported to the provincial construction supervision, which will then be able to release it for use. It was supposed to take place “in the fall”.

However, there are problems. In an interview with Gazeta Stołeczna, Michał Konopka from the Warsaw fire brigade reported that firefighters started a fire in the tunnel to check the security systems. Initially, they worked, but – as he emphasized – it cannot be 100 percent stated yet.

Automatic smoke exhaust did not work

According to the sources of “Gazeta Stołeczna”, automatic smoke extraction did not work during the test. The fans were supposed to work, but only when they were manually turned on by employees of the supervision center, despite the fact that GDDKiA had previously announced that the tunnel would be equipped with several safety systems and automatic sensors. According to an informant from “Gazeta Stołeczna”, the ventilation did not work “as it should” during the tests.

Journalists asked GDDKiA about it. From her spokeswoman Małgorzata Tarnowska, they received a general reply that the smoke tests would be repeated. She added that it was related to the introduction of modifications to the ventilation control in order to “increase its reliability”. She concluded that the control of ventilation is automatic.

As reported on tvnwarszawa.pl, opening of a tunnel under Ursynów along the Southern Bypass of Warsaw it has been moved many times. At the end of September, we wrote about the faulty surface. It was about “lack of the required frost resistance” in the approximately 400-meter section, outside the tunnel. The contractor had to carry out repair work at his own expense.

Initially, the entire investment, consisting of three stages, was to be commissioned in August 2020. However, it was not until December, just before Christmas, that two sections were opened: from the Lubelska junction to Przyczółkowa. In the case of the tunnel near Ursynów, in accordance with the annex to the contract, the time for completion of works was extended until the end of March 2021. The reason was, among other things, a long procedure of obtaining a permit for a road investment. Then the investor declared that the drivers would go through the tunnel in the second quarter of 2021, which was also not met.

Ultimately, drivers from December 22 last year have a 15-kilometer section of POW from the Warszawa-Wilanów and Lubelska interchange at their disposal. A new bridge over the Vistula is also open. The route can be accessed through four interchanges: Warszawa – Wilanów, Wał Miedzeszyński, Patriotów and Lubelska.
