The Management Board adopted a resolution repealing the update of the PGE Group’s strategy, PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna announced on Monday. It was explained that the decision was caused by the need to complete the process of establishing the National Energy Security Agency.

PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna announced on Monday in a press release that, with reference to current report No. 29/2023 of August 29, 2023, the management board of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna adopted on September 4, 2023 a resolution repealing the update of the PGE Group’s strategy.

It was explained that the decision was caused by the need to complete the process of establishing the National Energy Security Agency.

On August 29, PGE announced that the company’s supervisory board approved the update of the PGE Group Strategy until 2030. “Investments implemented under the Strategy are to focus on decarbonization and electrification.

“The update no longer takes into account conventional energy, which will be taken over by NABE. It is a well-thought-out, rational path for the development of the Polish energy industry,” DÄ…browski emphasized then.

PGE is the largest electricity company and supplier of electricity and heat in Poland. The State Treasury holds less than 61% of the company. shares.

Comments from the Sasin ministry

Last week, the Ministry of State Assets (MAP) commented on the energy company’s earlier strategy. It assumed that in 2040 it would become zero-emission.

Resort Jacek Sasin he noted that he “expects that the assumptions of the government’s energy policy will be implemented in practice by all energy companies with State Treasury participation.” At the same time, MAP pointed out that the Polish government’s energy policy “does not assume an acceleration of the transition from coal.”

The ministry pointed out that “the stable functioning of the coal sector will be secured by the emerging National Energy Security Agency (NABE).” “The Ministry of State Assets expects that the assumptions of the government’s energy policy will be implemented in practice by all energy companies with State Treasury participation, which will also be reflected in their strategies and investment activities,” MAP noted.

Coal as a “transition fuel”

Jacek Sasin’s ministry reminded that in accordance with the current social agreement regarding the transformation of the hard coal mining sector, deadlines have been set for ending the exploitation of hard coal in individual mines by the end of 2049. “Coal will be the transition fuel during the energy transformation. This is particularly important in the context of aggression Russia to Ukraine and last year’s energy crisis,” the ministry said.
