Until recently, it was believed that not a single Führer's banner had survived. Those that occasionally appeared at auctions were probably fakes. The banner recently discovered in Poznań is therefore unique on a global scale. Just as unique is the headache it causes museum workers.
- The banner remained in museum warehouses for years. However, it was only this year that it was correctly identified as the insignia of the leader of the Third Reich.
- This is not the only item related to Hitler in Poznań. The local Zamek Cultural Center also has his tableware.
- The question arises: What to do with the criminal's souvenirs? Keep it under lock and key or display it? And if exposed, on what terms?
King Staś looks at swastikas
In the Court Room of the Poznań City Hall there is a marble statue of the last Polish king. The figure of Stanisław August Poniatowski dressed in armor was supposed to symbolize royal power and remind councilors of the monarch's care over the city. One spring day in 2024, another symbol of power appeared at Poniatowski's feet. Completely different in character.
