Preparations for Christmas Eve for those in need are underway at the Caritas soup kitchen in Poznań. As many as 1,100 people will sit at a common table in the Poznań International Fair hall.
Work is in full swing at the Caritas eatery in Poznań. Preparations are underway for the Christmas Eve celebration for those in need, which will take place on Sunday at the Poznań International Fair. As many as 1,100 people will be seated at the common table. This is the largest such event organized by Caritas in Poland.
As Sister Elizabeth Krupa explains, the number of people in need is growing at an alarming rate, and help is needed every day, not only on holidays.
– We see constant growth. Even before the pandemic, we cared for about 70 people, and when it started, about 250. But this year shows us a really large increase in people needing help, he says.
While in March this year over 700 people were constantly benefiting from the soup kitchen’s help, now there are over a thousand people in need.
– We try to collect food from various places: from the store, from the bank [żywności – przyp. red]but there are also people who are open to the needs of others and sensitive to poverty – emphasizes the nun.
A warm meal is not everything
As he adds, the needs of the soup kitchen’s residents are not limited to meals, they lack almost everything, from socks to blankets and warm jackets.
People who would like to support the poorest can bring or send gifts to the address of the soup kitchen, which is located at ul. Łąkowa 4 in Poznań.
