A driver who fatally hit a cyclist in Poznań on Thursday was arrested for three months. Turns out he was driving under the influence of drugs.

The court in Poznań decided to temporarily arrest the driver for three months. The driver was charged with an additional charge of driving under the influence of drugs. He was temporarily arrested on Saturday – told TVN24 junior insp. Andrzej Borowiak, spokesman for the Greater Poland Police.

He had previously been charged with manslaughter while under the influence of drugs.

The cyclist crossed to the other side

The tragic accident happened on Thursday around 19:40 on Dąbrowskiego Street in Poznań, in the area of ​​the Botanical Garden. A 27-year-old cyclist has died after being hit by a car.

– On a marked pedestrian crossing with a bicycle path, a 27-year-old woman was hit by a car. Unfortunately, despite the resuscitation, she died – Kom. Maciej Święcichowski from the Wielkopolska police says about the preliminary findings of the police.

As reported by Gazeta Wyborcza, a 35-year-old Uber driver, a citizen of Belarus, drove into the cyclist.

The driver faces up to 12 years in prison

The activities of the services under the supervision of the prosecutor were carried out at the scene of the incident. – The driver was tested at the scene for alcohol content in the breath, but no alcohol content was detected in him. Due to his psychophysical condition, he was taken for a blood test to check whether he was under the influence of striking substances – says Andrzej Borowiak.

The results obtained from the laboratory showed that the driver was under the influence of drugs.

For causing a fatal accident while under the influence of drugs, the court must sentence the perpetrator to at least two years in prison. The maximum penalty for this crime is 12 years in prison.
