Poznan. Father Jan Glapiak is the new auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Poznań

Father Jan Glapiak was appointed by Pope Francis the new auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Poznań – the Apostolic Nunciature in Poland announced on Monday. At the time of his appointment as auxiliary bishop, Fr. Glapiak was the chairman of the legal department, the discipline of sacraments and sacramentals at the metropolitan curia in Poznań and the defender of the marriage bond at the metropolitan clerical court in Poznań.

“The Holy Father appointed the chairman of the legal department of the metropolitan curia in Poznań, Rev. Jan Glapiak, the auxiliary bishop of the Poznań Archdiocese. Bisica was given as the titular see,” the apostolic nunciature announced on Monday.

The new auxiliary bishop comes from Leszno

Father Glapiak was born on December 26, 1959 in Leszno. He comes from Górka Duchowna. In the years 1978-1984 he was formed at the Archbishop’s Seminary in Poznań. He was ordained a priest on May 24, 1984. In 1984-1989 he was a vicar, first in the parish of the Assumption of Our Lady and St. Michael in Wieleń on the Noteć and then in the parish of Our Lady of Częstochowa in Poznań. In the years 1989-1993 he completed specialist studies at the University of Pamplona. In 1993, he defended his doctoral dissertation in the field of canon law. At the time of his appointment as auxiliary bishop, he was the chairman of the legal department, the discipline of sacraments and sacramentals at the metropolitan curia in Poznań and the defender of the marriage bond at the metropolitan clerical court in Poznań. He was also a delegate of the Archbishop of Poznań for the protection of children and young people and a diocesan moderator of the Living Różaniec association. He knows the Spanish language.
