They were going to “inconspicuous smoke”, they had to deal with a construction disaster in which two firefighters lost their lives. Now the Greater Poland firefighters are appealing to honor the memory of their colleagues with them and do something that will give them “the feeling that they did not die in vain”. They are asking for one thing to be purchased.

On the night from Saturday to Sunday, a fire and explosion occurred in a tenement house on Kraszewskiego Street in Poznań. Two firefighters, aged 33 and 34, died in the action. Eleven firefighters and three civilians were also injured. The firefighters have no doubt that the scale of this tragedy could have been even greater, if it weren't for the smoke detector in one of the apartments.

– In my opinion, these people might not have survived if it hadn't been for the signal it emits. This sensor was on the third floor of this building and woke up the residents of one of the apartments. Everyone was evacuated and literally a dozen or so minutes later there was an explosion – Senior Brigadier Karol Kierzkowski, spokesman for the Chief Commander of the State Fire Service, told TVN24.

“Let's honor the memory of our colleagues”

On Tuesday afternoon, a post appeared on the social media of the Provincial Fire Department Headquarters in Poznań, in which firefighters thank everyone for their support in the face of the loss of two colleagues. They also appeal to do one thing.

“Let's honor the memory of our fallen colleagues, let's feel that they did not die in vain – let's buy a sensor, let's invest in OUR safety, in the safety of our loved ones and firefighters. You are with us all the time, now show your sensors in photos with the description #ForŁukaszIPatryka. Let them look at you proudly, already at St. Florian's, that you take care of yourself and your loved ones” – we read in the entry.

Karol Kierzkowski said on TVN24 that purchasing such a detector can be a “small investment in great security”. As he pointed out, the cost of purchasing a detector is about PLN 50-60.
