An exceptionally dangerous situation at a railway crossing in Poznań was recorded by Mr. Grzegorz. The driver of the off-road car found himself between the gates and instead of breaking the barrier, he set the car across the road. Fortunately, the train passed him. We received the recording on Kontakt 24.
The horrific incident happened on Wednesday at St. Psarskie in Poznań around 16:20. – I am a bus driver, so I go there quite often and I see that there are situations where drivers try to be faster than the barriers, but it rarely ends up being closed between them – says Mr. Grzegorz.
“I do not tolerate such stupidity”
There are two railway crossings on Psarskie Street: from the north for freight trains that bypass the city center and go along the rail freight bypass, and from the south for passenger trains. They close simultaneously.
– The signaling at the first crossing already announced the appearance of the train, but the driver ignored these signals, entering the crossing, where as a result he got stuck – explains Mr. Grzegorz.
As he says, the driver first hit the barrier when trying to leave, but when it did not break, he gave up further attempts. – If he tried, he would certainly be able to break the barrier, but instead he started looking for another solution – says Mr. Grzegorz.
The man stressed that he was very outraged by the situation. “I’m a driver and I don’t tolerate such stupidity on the road,” he said.
The recording shows how the driver of the off-road truck sets the car across the railway crossing and tries – going backwards and forwards, to position himself as close to the turnpike as possible, so that the oncoming train does not hit him.
– Fortunately, this time he managed to park the car and the train somehow passed by – reports Mr. Grzegorz.
It ended in tragedy in Puszczykowo
In the video, it can be seen that the freight train was going quite fast and if it hit the car, it would end in tragedy.
A similar situation occurred on April 3, 2019 before 4 p.m. at the railway crossing on Wczasowa Street in Puszczykowo near Poznań. The ambulance then entered the track while the barriers were closing. The ambulance driver tried to keep the ambulance parallel, but part of the vehicle ended up on the tracks. The driver didn’t have time to do anything else. The train swept the ambulance off the tracks. Two people died in the accident. The ambulance driver stayed on Tuesday sentenced to five years in prison.
