23 years ago, the owner of a Poznań auto dealership died from an ax blow. The investigation quickly came to a standstill, but now there has been a breakthrough. He was arrested on suspicion of a crime. He provided an alibi years ago, then he was released. Now he has confessed to the murder.

The crime took place on the night of August 31, 2000. In the morning, a passerby noticed that from the car dealer’s office at ul. On June 28, 1956, smoke comes out. Firefighters who responded to the call found a man unconscious inside the building while extinguishing the fire. It turned out that he was the owner of the car dealership. He had a massive wound on his head. As it turned out later, he was hit with an ax that police found inside the building. He was seriously injured and rushed to the hospital, where he died a week later.

The investigation conducted years ago has come to a dead end. There was some suspicion at the time, but no key evidence was found. The perpetrator deliberately set fire to the interior of the office to destroy all traces.

He lived in his house, helped in the renovation

– Police experts X-Files reviewed this case a year ago. They recognized that there were some possibilities to return to the case. They shared their observations with prosecutors from the District Prosecutor’s Office in Poznań. The investigation has started again – informs Andrzej Borowiak, press officer of the Wielkopolska police. – The information gathered showed that the person most suspected of involvement in this case was the then thirty-year-old Wojciech W. A few months before the murder, he lived in the house of the owner of the second-hand shop. He helped him in the renovation of the house and during various works on the consignment site. Interrogated shortly after the murder, he provided an alibi and was released. Nothing has been found that could unequivocally incriminate him.

The X-Files policemen, dealing with the investigation, returned to the analysis of traces secured at the crime scene. They also reached previously unidentified people with significant knowledge. After collecting this evidence again, after consultations with the District Prosecutor’s Office in Poznań, a decision was made to detain Wojciech W.

A charge of murder

On Tuesday, police officers from the Poznań X-Files and the Execution Group of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Poznań detained a 53-year-old man.

– He’s been charged with murder. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime. At the request of the prosecutor, the court issued a decision on pre-trial detention. Wojciech W. is threatened with life imprisonment, adds Borowiak.
