The police detained two men who were allegedly involved in preparing several dozen Molotov cocktails, which were to be thrown at a train with a thousand Widzew Łódź fans returning from Szczecin. Officers found 28 bottles of gasoline on a railway viaduct in Antoninek near Poznań.
The Wielkopolska police announced the arrest of two men in a statement. “Based on the evidence, the prosecutor’s office charged one of the detainees with producing dangerous or explosive substances, for which he faces up to 8 years in prison. The second detainee was released after questioning,” we read in the release.
The train with fans was allegedly thrown with Molotov cocktails
According to the police, the incident took place on July 31. 28 bottles of gasoline, the so-called Molotov cocktails. A few hours earlier, a special train with a thousand Widzew Łódź fans who were returning from Szczecin to Łódź was traveling along this railway route. “Police officers of the Department for Combating the Crime of Hooligans of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Poznań determined that people from the so-called Swarzędz fanatics team wanted to throw improvised incendiary charges on the special train. For this purpose, they entered the railway viaduct in Antoninek. They were waiting for the train that they believed was about to pass track under the viaduct. It was only by chance that the train was directed by the railway workers to the upper track. The perpetrators’ plan failed,” the police inform.
As a result of the activities carried out by the police, evidence was collected that allowed for the filing of charges and the temporary arrest of one person. The investigation is ongoing and further arrests are possible.
