More entrepreneurs can resume their business on Kraszewskiego Street in Poznań. By decision of the District Building Inspector, in connection with the nearing completion of the demolition of the building, the “zero zone” has been reduced again.

The tenement house at Kraszewskiego 12 in Poznań is almost demolished. The building mass has disappeared. In connection with this, the District Building Inspector decided to reduce the “zero zone” – the city council informed about it. This means that other entrepreneurs can resume their activities.

Since Monday (September 23), a section of the sidewalk directly in front of tenement house no. 11 has been accessible to pedestrians. “Entrepreneurs operating there will be able to return to business on Monday. Earlier, on September 9, on Kraszewskiego Street, from the side of Słowackiego Street, sidewalks were opened to traffic at the height of buildings no. 8, 10 and 10a, as well as – on the other side of the street – at the height of numbers 9, 9a and 9b and part of number 11 (up to the premises with household appliances inclusive)” – the city council said in a press release.

As for Kraszewskiego Street on the section from Szamarzewskiego Street, part of the sidewalk near tenement house no. 15 has been made available to pedestrians, and on the other side – near the pavilion where the vegetable shop is located.

The work is progressing according to schedule

The District Building Inspector issued a decision ordering the demolition of the tenement house at ul. Kraszewskiego 12 in Poznań on August 28. Demolition began on September 2. The initial work was done manually, then heavy equipment could enter. Now the work is coming to an end. As reported by inspector Paweł Łukaszewski, everything is going according to schedule, and the work being carried out involves removing rubble from the basements.

The inspector assumes that these activities will last until the end of the week. Then next week the demolition area will be fenced and closed.

Two firefighters died

A fire and explosion in a tenement house on Kraszewskiego Street occurred on the night of August 24-25. The services were called to a fire in the basement. Five minutes after the call, firefighters were already on the scene. While searching the basement, where they were looking for the source of the fire, two explosions occurred, after which the fire quickly developed.

Two firefighters who were conducting reconnaissance in the basement died in the rubble. Eleven firefighters and three other people were injured. Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Wiesław Leśniakiewicz said that “the force of the explosion was so great that it ripped off the helmets of the firefighters' heads”. At the peak of the firefighting operation, about 100 firefighters and about 30 vehicles were working on the site.

29 and August 30 Funeral ceremonies for tragically deceased firefighters were held. They were of a state nature.
