Donald Tusk commented on social media about recommending President Andrzej Duda as a member of the International Olympic Committee. “Bad people have clearly maneuvered the President into this Olympic scandal. As soon as he realizes that he has taken the place of an Olympic medalist who has been active in the IOC for years, respected and competent, he will certainly make the right decision,” he added.

On Thursday, the Polish Olympic Committee adopted a resolution recommending President Andrzej Duda as a member of the International Olympic Committee.

In March, the IOC congress

There has been speculation for some time as to what the president will do after leaving office. Term of office Andrzej Duda as president ends in August 2025.

The first IOC session after this date, at which he could be elected an IOC member, is scheduled for February 2026 in Milan, on the occasion of the Winter Olympic Games. Formally, however, there are no obstacles to electing the current head of state. A session will be held in March 2025 Greecebut the main point of the meeting will be the election of a new president of the organization to replace Thomas Bach, who is leaving his position. Seven candidates are scheduled to present themselves at a special IOC session in January.

Currently, the IOC has 111 members, with a maximum of 115.

Currently, the Polish representative in the IOC is Polish Olympic medalist Maja Włoszczowska, who has been working in the IOC Athletes' Commission since 2021 and on this basis has the status of an IOC member.

Candidates are elected for an eight-year renewable term. IOC members elected in the years 1967-99 can serve in this function until the age of 80, and those elected after 1999 – until the age of 70. Among the 115 members, 70 are not associated with any specific function or office, 15 are athletes' representatives, another 15 come from the heads of world sports federations and the same number from people performing managerial roles in national Olympic committees or their continental associations.
