President Andrzej Duda meets with the leader of the Belarusian opposition, Sviatlana Cichanouska, at the Presidential Palace. “I am grateful to Poland for the decisive and strong support for Belarusians,” Cichanouska wrote on Twitter on Thursday morning.
Swiatłana Cichanouska’s meeting with Andrzej Duda began after 12.00 Cichanouska wrote on Twitter on Thursday that she had come to Warsaw at the invitation of President Andrzej Duda to discuss the situation on the Belarusian-EU border, as well as the topics of: Andrzej Poczobut and Andżelika Borys, free media support and students. “I am grateful to Poland for decisive and strong support for Belarusians,” she emphasized.
Kumoch: Poland is in a dispute with Lukashenka, not with Belarusians
The head of the presidential International Policy Bureau, Jakub Kumoch, emphasized that Cichanouska “is the leader of the democratic forces of Belarus and represents a large part of Belarusians.” – We perceive her as a person who speaks on behalf of the Belarusian people – he added.
– We appreciate the fact that the entire Belarusian opposition behaved very solidly towards Poland during the hybrid operation of Lukashenka and that it clearly, bluntly, told the world that the dictator was solely responsible for the crisis at the border. We, in turn, clearly said that Poland is in a dispute with Lukashenka and not with Belarusians, Kumoch said.
Meeting with representatives of the Belarusian community
At 6.30 pm in Belweder Palace, the president and his wife Agata Kornhauser-Duda will meet Swiatlana Cichanouska and representatives of the Belarusian community.
– In the evening, a pre-Christmas and New Year meeting with Belarusians who have found shelter in Poland is planned. We want to listen to the representatives of the diaspora, hear what else we can do for them. Poland is and will remain a shelter for the victims of the Lukashenka regime, Kumoch said.
