President Andrzej Duda met with farmers from the “Orka” union who occupied the Sejm

The President met at the Presidential Palace with representatives of the “Orka” Agricultural Union, who had been protesting in the Sejm for almost two weeks. Duda decided that a representative of the protesting farmers would join the Council for Agriculture. The “Orka” association was registered at the beginning of May.

The President met on Monday at around 11 a.m. at the Presidential Palace with farmers from the “Orka” Agricultural Union who had been protesting in the Sejm since May 9. They ended their protest last Wednesday. The deputy head of the Chancellery of the President, Piotr Ćwik, and the presidential minister, Wojciech Kolarski, also participate in the talks.

Kolarski said that the meeting was the result of the president's conversation with the protesters, which took place last Wednesday in the Sejm. – That conversation had one important effect. He added that Monday's meeting began with thanks to… Andrzej Duda for showing respect to farmers and for “de facto causing this dramatic protest to end after two weeks.”

He also informed that Andrzej Duda, at the request of farmers, decided to have a representative of the protesters join the President's Council for Agriculture, operating as part of the National Development Council. He announced that a broader representation of protesting farmers would meet with members of the Council.

The union was registered at the beginning of May

On May 9, a group of 11 farmers started a protest in the Sejm, demanding a conversation with the Prime Minister Donald Tusk on the EU Green Deal. However, the Prime Minister stated that he did not plan to meet this group of farmers. According to him, the protesting group is not representative of farmers. On Wednesday, May 22, they left the Sejm building after talking to Andrzej Duda, who invited them to a meeting.

According to information from the Polish Press Agency, farmers were to apply for tickets to all clubs, and to the Sejm they entered thanks to MPs from Confederation and PiS. TVN24 reporter Maja Wójcikowska reported that the union of protesting farmers was registered at the beginning of May.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture Michał Kołodziejczak spoke more about the protesters. – This group is headed by a man who recently… elections local government, he did not get a seat on the district council.
