It is good that the president, instead of signing this law, decided to send it to the Constitutional Tribunal, Zbigniew Ziobro, the Minister of Justice and leader of Solidarna Polska, said on Saturday, commenting on Andrzej Duda’s decision on the court bill. The Left announced that it would re-submit the bill amending the law on the Supreme Court, along with the amendments worked out by the Senate opposition.

President Andrzej Duda announced in a message on Friday that he had decided to referring the amendment to the Act on the Supreme Court and other courts to the Constitutional Tribunalin preventive control mode. – This means that the law will not be in force until the Tribunal has ruled on its compliance with the constitution – he added. At the same time, he appealed to the judges of the Constitutional Tribunal to immediately deal with the amendment.

– It is good that the president, instead of signing this law, which would not bring any change in the Polish situation, but would only worsen the rebellion in the judiciary, decided to refer the law to the Constitutional Tribunal – he said.

He reminded that SP politicians appealed to the president for a veto, but – as he added – “this decision from this point of view is certainly a better decision than signing a bill that would not solve anything.” – We would not get money from KPO, and it would deepen the disorganization, chaos and rebellion in the Polish judiciary – assessed Ziobro.

According to him, “from the statements of European Union politicians, it is clear that there would be further demands” if the amendment came into force and that “it is about a change of power in Poland, politicians with the hands of the European Commission want to bring about a change of government in Poland.” – The policy of concessions is bad policy. The policy of succumbing to blackmailers always leads to the escalation of blackmail – he added.

Czarzasty: funds from KPO will not come until the opposition takes power in Poland

The co-chairmen of the New Left were critical of the decision of the head of state during the Saturday press conference in front of the Presidential Palace Vladimir Czarzastythe co-chairman of the Left Together Adrian Zandberg and the chairman of the Left party club Krzysztof Gawkowski.

“It’s another act of endless tragedy,” Czarzasty judged. He stressed that due to the “incompetence of the government” Poland will not receive funds from the KPO. – As a result of idiotic quarrels and a specially made lack of communication between the PiS ruling party, Mr Jarosław Kaczyńskibetween the government, Mr Mateusz Morawieckibetween an element of this government, Mr. Zbigniew Ziobro, and between Mr. President Andrzej Duda, these funds will not come to Poland, said the politician.

He also stated that “these funds will not come to Poland until the opposition takes power in Poland in October.” He assured that this is not an arrogant statement. – Because at the moment the PiS camp is so at odds with each other that there is no real chance that these funds will come to Poland – stressed Czarzasty. – We blame those in power: the president of our country, the government and the PiS party – he added.

In Czarzasty’s opinion, the “irony of fate” is that the president referred the amendment to the law on the Supreme Court to the Constitutional Tribunal because, as he assured, he was fighting for the constitution not to be violated. – We would like to remind you, Mr. President, due to the fact that you signed bills that violated the constitution, this whole situation happened – said the deputy marshal of the Sejm.

The left submits a draft of changes with the Senate’s amendments

Zandberg said that PLN 150 billion from KPO fell into the “Bermuda triangle” between the Minister of Justice Zbigniew Ziobro, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and President Andrzej Duda, who “have been dealing with each other for a year and Poland is losing huge money because of it.” “This is extreme irresponsibility for the state,” said the deputy.

As he stated, the law on the Supreme Court was supposed to “open the way for huge amounts of money to be sent to Poland”. – There were probably no good solutions in this matter, but President Duda chose the worst – assessed Zandberg. As he added, a “knife war” is going on in the Constitutional Tribunal and it is likely that the Constitutional Tribunal will not even gather to answer the president’s question. – This means that Poland will not receive huge European funds for another year. The ruling right wing bears full responsibility for this, he stressed.

According to the politician, the Left did everything in the matter of EU funds to ensure that the money from KPO would go to Poland.

Gawkowski assessed that President Andrzej Duda “added another brick to the political chaos in Poland” and led to a situation in which “there will be no money from the EU for months, and perhaps even years.”

According to Gawkowski, there are solutions in the parliament that “can be implemented quickly and money from the Reconstruction Fund – Polish money from the EU – be given to Poles”. – This is the act amending the act on the Supreme Court and the act on the liquidation of the Chamber of Professional Responsibility – he said, presenting the draft.

– We will submit this bill again next week along with the amendments that have been worked out by the democratic opposition in the Senate. We will submit a bill that can be adopted quickly and save Poles a dignified life, give a chance for inflation to fall, the economy to develop, the crisis to decrease, and Poles’ wallets not to empty, said the MP of the Left.

Answering the media’s question about seeking support for the bill in the Sejm, Czarzasty stated that “we will not talk to PiS”. – We voted for money (from KPO) not for PiS, but for Poles. How many times can you pass the ball to players who do not know how to play the ball. It doesn’t make sense, he said.

Andrzej Duda referred the amendment to the law on the Supreme Court to the Constitutional Tribunal

The president said in Friday’s address that he was and is a supporter of compromise. – It is important to me to activate the funds from the National Reconstruction Plan as soon as possible, which are needed for the development of the Polish economy – he said. – That is why I did not decide to veto the amendment to the law on the Supreme Court, which was passed by the Polish parliament in recent days – he informed.

– But as the President of the Republic of Poland, I uphold the constitution and care for the legal security of citizens. So I decided to refer this bill to the Constitutional Tribunal – under the preventive control procedure – said the president.

As he pointed out, “the provisions of this act touch on fundamental systemic issues, including the stability of the judiciary and the judgments it has issued over a number of years, which are issues that are very important for citizens.” – That is why the Constitutional Tribunal should clearly resolve all doubts, as the only entity authorized to do so – said Duda.

He assessed that “in practice, this will not delay the payment of funds from the KPO for Poland, because for this it is necessary to take further actions and decisions, including further legal acts, which are provided for in the agreement concluded by the government with the European Commission – which takes time anyway.”
