The President, as the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, determines by way of a resolution, at the request of the Minister of Defence, the main directions of development of the Polish Armed Forces and their preparations for the defense of the state. The document is classified and is based, among others, on the guidelines contained in the National Security Strategy of the Republic of Poland.

Błaszczak: a strong and modern army is the key to the country’s security

Błaszczak emphasized that a strong and modern army is the key to the country’s security, hence the government focuses on strengthening the army and invests in modern equipment to deter a potential aggressor.

– A document will also be signed today, an agreement establishing a consortium between Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa and Hyundai Rotem, i.e. a Korean company. A consortium that will produce the K2 tank in Poland, said the Deputy Prime Minister.

At the end of February, PGZ concluded an agreement with the manufacturer of the K2 tank – Huyndai Rotem – an agreement defining the principles of industrial cooperation between PGZ and Wojskowe Zakłady Motoryzacyjne, which are part of the Group, and the South Korean partner in the production, supply and maintenance of the K2 tanks in the PL version.

It was agreed that the joint production of K-2PL tanks and accompanying vehicles on tracked chassis would take place at WZM. It was determined which industrial capacities will be transferred to WZM and other PGZ companies. This includes the assembly of tanks, the ability to produce hulls and turrets, hydropneumatic suspension, gun and autoloader assembly, and other selected components.

The technical and infrastructural conditions necessary for the production and provision of maintenance, repair and maintenance services in Poland throughout the tank’s life cycle were agreed, as well as the conditions of the license necessary for the production of tanks for the Polish Armed Forces and the conditions of export cooperation. The executive contract for K2 tanks provides for the purchase of 180 of these tanks for USD 5.8 billion. According to the framework agreement, which ultimately assumes the purchase of 1,000 of these tanks, 820 vehicles ordered at a later stage are to be manufactured under license in Poland.
