Presidential election 2025. Why did President Andrzej Duda support the PiS candidate Karol Nawrocki?

President Andrzej Duda supported the PiS candidate Karol Nawrocki on Sunday, although he previously declared that the president “was not from providing official support.” Piotr Kraśko and journalist Arleta Zalewska talked about the reasons for changing their minds by Duda.

On Sunday, President Andrzej Duda appeared at the PiS candidate organized in Łódź. Karol Nawrocki. During his speech, he mobilized PiS activists and Nawrocki supporters. He also pointed out to whom he would vote for in the upcoming presidential election.

– I, Andrzej Duda, having the same rights as you go to the election and cast my vote, I will vote for Karol Nawrocki in these elections, because I believe that he is a man who will strive and will do everything to make Poland be honest, that Poland is a strong state, also in the international arena – he said.

On Sunday, journalists Radomir Wit, Piotr Kraśko and journalist Arleta Zalewska talked about this declaration in the program “In Kuluari” on TVN24. Kraśko recalled the president's statement from November last year, when Duda, asked if any of the candidates in the campaign, stated that “the President of the Republic of Poland was not from providing official support to any of the candidates.”

– This change of decision when it comes to Andrzej Duda, in my opinion, due to the future. Both political, and his right and his in relation to the government – said Zalewska.

As the journalist explained, “talking to many advisers of the president in November and after the New Year, she heard that President Duda would not be involved in this campaign in any case” and “he would limit himself to meetings with candidates.”

Why did Duda change his mind?

Zalewska estimated that when it comes to changing his position by the president, “three areas are key”. She was the first to indicate his relationship with the government. – I heard such statements that the president, to put it mildly, does not work with the government. And here, of course, on both sides there is a lack of agreement on various fundamental issues – she said.

According to Zalewska, the second issue is Duda's political future. – It seems to me that the president may be seen in the future in the chair of the head of the government (…). Anyway, the president does not want to go to political pension she said.

Then she replaced the third point. – I think the president – I don't know if he senses or sees it in polls – But he clearly feels that the elections in Poland have not been resolved because they have not been. In the second round, all candidates say that everything will be for razor blades and it will depend on mobilization – she assessed.

– (Duda – ed.) He decided that he was played and if Karol Nawrocki became president, then he will say that this is thanks to his anointing – added Zalewska.

Wit “Dreaming on the side of the staff of Karol Nawrocki”

Wit pointed out that “there is a dream on the side of Karol Nawrocki's staff, so that the first round would end with the result, where Nawrocki will be in the first place.”

– What we see now is an introduction to this full consolidation. This has already happened in recent weeks, when the poster of Law and Justice appeared everywhere on the name of Karol Nawrocki, when he was already erupted with Law and Justice. And now this last stage, already total fusion, i.e. President Andrzej Duda and the mobilization of the Law and Justice electorate – he explained.

Zalewska noticed that Duda said during her speech: “Not only: Karol you must, but you have to”. “It was a politician who mobilized, as he suggested, a slightly dormant PiS electorate,” she said.

– The PiS staff hopes that he will mobilize the right before the first round. And this PiS right, and some confederation, but also this right somewhere on the edge PSLif she voted and voted for Andrzej Duda in the second round, which we know from survey tests – she added.

Duda and “End of this relationship with Sławomir Mentzen”

Kraśko stated that the next reason for changing the sentence by Duda is the confederation candidate Sławomir Mentzenwith whom he met twice, “which must have been a painful blow to Karol Nawrocki and Law and Justice.”

– It seemed that this was also the president's idea for his future, if not international, maybe a national one. Assuming that Karol Nawrocki has no chance to win these choices, it may be better to stand closer to Sławomir Mentzen and build his political environment not based on Law and Justice (…), but based on some alliance with Sławomir Mentzen, who even if he lost these elections, but would get to the second round, he builds his position so that everything changes on the right – he explained.

– If Andrzej Duda went to the convention today to Łódź, it seems to me, and he is convinced, and the whole right is convinced that in the second round there will be Karol Nawrocki – he added. According to the journalist, “was the clear position of Andrzej Duda – the end of this relationship with Sławomir Mentzen”.
