We will be waiting for a proposal from the media regarding the organization of presidential debates – said Minister of Sport Sławomir Nitras, cooperating with Rafał Trzaskowski, who is running for president, in “Fakty po Faktach” on TVN24. – Before he came Jacek Kurski to public television (during the government PIS headed TVP – ed.), there was a permanent mechanism developed, probably respected by everyone, in which the candidates responded to the invitation of the largest television stations that tried to conduct such a debate together – he recalled. He added that “restoring democracy means, among other things, giving back to journalists what belongs to journalists.”

Nitras on the presidential debates: we will wait for the proposal

– I think I can make such a declaration on behalf of our staff, Rafał Trzaskowski's staff, that we will wait for a proposal, preferably (from – the editor) of all three largest Polish television stations – said Nitras.

– I believe that there should be a debate in the first round, in which all registered candidates will take part, (…), there should definitely be at least one such debate. And at least one such debate should take place in the second round, he continued.

– Maybe there should have been more of these debates in the first round, I don't know. Here, I would rather put the initiative in your hands, in the hands of your editorial staff and the other largest free-to-air television stations in Poland – he turned to the program's host, Katarzyna Kolenda-Zaleska.

He also stated that, in his opinion, the best date to hold the first round of elections would be May 11. – Then it does not interfere with any holidays or breaks. These are probably the most reasonable dates, but the decision here, of course, rests with the Marshal Szymon Hołownia – he added.
