The anti-inflationary package will include a reduction in the excise tax on energy carriers. We are ready to present the project, announced Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki on Monday. He added that the government will do everything to achieve a slight strengthening of the zloty.
Morawiecki on the anti-inflation shield
– The anti-inflationary shield is practically ready and we will want to implement it or a significant part of it before Christmas. It will include such elements as lowering the excise tax on energy carriers. We will tell you about the details in due course. Actually, we are ready with this project to present it, said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.
According to Morawiecki, it is energy carriers that are responsible for soaring prices, and this is evidenced by the fact that in “the vast majority of European countries” inflation is historically high within 20 or 30 years.
– Gazprom, Russia, Nord Stream 2 and those in the European People’s Party who not only did not block Nord Stream 2, but also favored the construction of this gas pipeline, are responsible for the high energy prices, said Morawiecki. As he added, today this gas pipeline is an element of blackmail in the hands of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Prime Minister on the zloty exchange rate
When asked during the conference whether he was worried about the zloty exchange rate level, the prime minister said: – Of course, yes, and therefore we will do everything to make the zloty a bit stronger. Probably it is very good for exporters, but at the same time for all those who have debt in foreign currency, and especially for the Polish budget, which has a partially nominated debt in foreign currencies, it is not good.
He noted that he hoped that the situation on the currency market would stabilize in the next few quarters.
On Monday, around 2 pm, the euro cost less than PLN 4.7 on the currency market, and the dollar – slightly more than PLN 4.16.
The head of government also mentioned that he would like to discuss the model for unvaccinated people with the opposition, in order to be clear whether the project on verifying the vaccination of employees will have a majority.
