LONDON — A distinguished lawmaker inside Britain’s governing Conservative Celebration revealed Thursday that he has been arrested in reference to a rape allegation.
Crispin Blunt, 63, stated in a press release on X, previously generally known as Twitter, that he was arrested Wednesday and that he has twice been interviewed by police in reference to what he termed “this incident.”
Blunt, who has been a lawmaker since 1997 and a former minister, stated he was first interviewed three weeks in the past when he “initially reported” his concern over an unnamed “extortion.”
The second time, he stated, was “earlier this morning below warning following arrest.”
He added that the arrest was “pointless” and that he stays “able to cooperate totally with the investigation that I’m assured will finish with out cost.”
“I don’t intend to say something additional on this matter till the police have accomplished their inquiries,” he added.
Blunt’s assertion got here quickly after Surrey Police stated they’d arrested a person Wednesday morning within the city of Horley, which is about 60 miles (about 100 kilometers) south of London, on suspicion of rape and the possession of managed substances.
A spokesperson for the police stated the person “has been launched on conditional police bail pending additional inquiries.”
