Protest by Ukrainian carriers “in response to the actions of Polish farmers”

A protest by Ukrainian carriers began on Thursday near the Jagodyn (Jahodyn) – Dorohusk border crossing in response to the actions of Polish farmers – the Suspilne portal reported. The campaign may last until March inclusive.

The protest started around 11 (10 a.m. in Poland) on the Ukrainian side of the border. 15 Ukrainian trucks and about 20 passenger cars are participating in the action.

Drivers placed posters with inscriptions in Ukrainian, Polish and English on their vehicles. In the photos attached to the entry on Telegram, you can read the protesters’ slogans: “True brotherhood is not discrimination”, “Free movement for both sides is a common victory”, “Stop the blockade at the borders”.

The Suspilne website notes that it is not yet known how long the action will last. Initially, Ukrainian carriers plan to protest until March 10.

On February 9, farmers protested across Poland, opposing, among others, introducing the Green Deal and the inflow of goods from Ukrainebecause agricultural production became unprofitable.

On Sunday, participants of an agricultural protest in the vicinity they spilled some of the grain at the border crossing in Dorohusk from three trucks coming from Ukraine. The incident was criticized by the Ukrainian authorities. A prosecutor’s investigation was initiated into the case.

Polish Minister of Agriculture Czesław Siekierski said that although the situation is tense, this is not the right form of protest, but “it is difficult not to understand the desperation” of farmers due to the difficult economic situation. He emphasized that he was talking to the Ukrainian side, and the solution to the problems related to the inflow of food products from Ukraine also lies with the European Commission.
