Protest in Medyka. Meeting of farmers with Minister Czesław Siekierski, an agreement was signed

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Czesław Siekierski, Podkarpackie Voivode Teresa Kubas-Hul and the leader of “Podkarpacka Cheated Village” Roman Kondrów signed an agreement with farmers on Saturday afternoon. Pursuant to it, the farmers’ protest at the Medyka crossing was suspended.

– Today, an agreement was concluded to suspend the farmers’ protest on the Polish-Ukrainian border in Medyka – announced the Podkarpackie Voivode Teresa Kubas-Hul at a briefing on Saturday late afternoon, after the meeting.

As she added, the parties to the agreement are: Minister of Agriculture Czesław Siekierski, Podkarpackie Voivode and the leader of “Podkarpacka Oszukana Wieś” Roman Kondrów. The agreement states that the Minister of Agriculture accepts and implements all three farmers’ demands: launching a corn subsidy in the amount of PLN 1 billion, increasing lending for liquidity loans by PLN 2.5 billion and maintaining the agricultural tax level at the 2023 level. “The demands described above will be implemented after the legislative process is completed and the necessary approvals from the European committees are obtained,” the voivode read.

It also committed to establishing an advisory team for agriculture with the participation of farmers representing organizations operating in the rural areas and agriculture related to the production and processing of agri-food products.

“The leader of ‘Deceived Village’, acting on behalf of the protesting farmers, declares that upon signing the agreement, the protest at the border crossing in Medyka is suspended for the period necessary to carry out legal and notification changes and for the time necessary to implement additional changes,” Kubas read -Hul.

Queue at the border in Medyka

As previously reported by the services on the granita.gov.pl website, the estimated time for truck drivers to cross the border in Medyka was 65 hours, i.e. over two and a half days. This is longer than in recent days: on Friday it was 55 hours and on Thursday – 48.

Asp. Joanna Golisz from the Przemyśl police said that a total of approximately 630 trucks were waiting in line for customs clearance in Medyka on Saturday morning. This is slightly more than on Friday – then the line of trucks consisted of 570 vehicles.
